Glynn Academy High School Terrors – Brunswick, Georgia

In 2018, Coach Trent inherited a program that had not advanced past the second round of the state playoffs in over 30 years—and once again, he began without the ability to hire assistant coaches.

Despite the challenge, he led the team to the state playoffs in his first year.

  • 2019: Faced and lost to the eventual state champions in the first round

  • 2020: The team was ranked #1 in the state with a 12–2 record when the season was cut short due to COVID-19

  • 2021: Overcame season-ending injuries to multiple key players and still reached the Elite 8 for the first time in 31 years

Coach Trent’s Legacy at GA:

  • Built one of the top JV programs in southeastern Georgia

  • Positioned the program for sustained, long-term success

North Hall High School Trojans – Gainesville, Georgia

In 2007, Coach Trent took over a North Hall program that had never advanced beyond the second round of the state playoffs—and did so without hiring any assistants. He immediately transformed the field and culture, installing a warning track, regrading the infield, laying new clay and base paths, and building a full-sized wooden outfield wall. The revamped facility earned Georgia’s “Field of the Year” award.

Under his leadership:

  • 2013: Reached the state championship game

  • 2014–2016: Lost only to the eventual state champions each year

  • 2017: Captured the first state championship in school history—not just in baseball, but in any major men’s sport (baseball, basketball, football) in North Hall’s 65+ year existence

    • Also marked the first baseball state title in Hall County Schools history

Coach Trent was named the 2017 National High School Coach of the Year and took the national stage as a main presenter at the American Baseball Coaches Association conference, addressing 6,000 coaches.

His program produced:

  • 3 Georgia Players of the Year

  • A consistent statewide powerhouse

  • 2-time Georgia Coach of the Year honors for Trent

Off the field, he published “Winning Baseball” Books 1 & 2 with Sterling Publishing (2011 & 2012), solidifying his influence on the game nationwide.

Richmond Senior High School Raiders – Rockingham, North Carolina

Following his standout tenure at Laney, Coach Trent continued to make a major impact at Richmond Senior High School (RSHS)—then the third-largest high school in North Carolina.

During his time at RSHS:

  • The team qualified for the state playoffs every year, maintaining consistent excellence.

  • In just his third season, Trent boldly started five 10th graders, demonstrating his commitment to talent development and long-term growth.

  • The following year—what would have been his fourth season—RSHS played for the state championship, building on the foundation he helped establish.

Beyond the field, Coach Trent began crafting what would become his most influential off-field contribution to the game:
He authored and produced “Winning Baseball”, a comprehensive book and DVD series originally titled “A Major League Guide to Amateur Baseball.” The series would go on to help coaches and players nationwide by offering practical instruction rooted in professional-level insight, adapted for amateur and high school baseball.

Laney High School Bucs – Wilmington, North Carolina

Coach Trent began his coaching journey in 1992 as an Assistant Varsity Coach, quickly rising through the ranks to become Laney High School’s Head Baseball Coach in 1995 at just 25 years old. In his first year, he led the team to a historic victory over the #1 high school baseball team in the country—ending two state records and a national streak—while securing Laney’s first-ever conference championship. That same year, he was named Region 2 Coach of the Year.

Under his leadership (1995–2003), Laney experienced unprecedented success:

  • 5 State Playoff Appearances

  • 3 Easter Tournament Championships

  • Defeated multiple #1-ranked teams, including the nation’s best

His tenure transformed the program’s facilities and future:

  • 1996: A new MLB-spec baseball field was built—named NC Field of the Year

  • 2000: Opened the Gorham Indoor Hitting Facility, the first full-size indoor high school hitting facility in Eastern NC

Coach Trent’s impact extended beyond wins:

  • 33 players advanced to play college baseball

  • 7 athletes reached the professional level

  • Coached Bryan Britt and Ronald Hill—both now honored with annual player-named awards at UNCW, the only ones of their kind in the program

In 2002, he led Laney to its first Final Four appearance by defeating the state’s #1 team in the Elite 8. He concluded his Laney career in 2003, leaving behind a culture of excellence, development, and legacy-building that continues to inspire.
