Taber and Trent Mongero Baseball and Softball Training
Kenny Holmberg - Mongero Baseball Camps Testimonial

To all those aspiring to become a better ball player and take their game to the next level… I’m Kenny Holmberg MiLB field coordinator for the Texas Rangers. My opportunity and experience in Charlotte, NC at the Dirt Bro Elite infield camp was amazing!

3 of our MiLB coaches and I left extremely impressed with the attention to detail in developing and owning your routine. The drill work promoted clean actions through thoughtful technique, posture holds, and instruction.

The players were able to improve individual and partner-style drills. It was great to see young players establishing and executing infield routines. Just an incredible amount of content and information that was consumable and sticky.

What resonated most with me was how Trent and Taber Mongero approached the mental side of the game with a feel and understanding for the campers. Baseball IQ, on-field awareness, and additional excellent resources were provided for the players and parents to become better equipped for the next level of competition.

– Kenny Holmberg

Steve Karsay, former MLB player and current MLB coach for the Angels brought his son to a recent Dirt Bro Elite Infield Camp and sent this video describing their experience.

Here’s what he had to say…

Hope to see you at one of our upcoming camps! There is no better time than now! #DoingDirtWork

Take Your Infield Play to the Next Level with the Mongero² “Dirt Bro” Elite Infield Academy/Camp

The “Dirt Bro” Elite Infield Academy/Camp provides a comprehensive experience for both baseball and softball players of all levels.

Instruction is conducted by veteran infield coach Trent Mongero and his Division 1-starting shortstop son, Taber Mongero.

A Division of
Winning Baseball

Campers will learn key physical and mental tools needed to transform their infield play, including “The Big 6 Infield Drills.” They will also learn and apply a critical “catch play routine,” valuable tips to increase their range, pre-game/practice routines, how to identify strengths and weaknesses, understand what physical tools are required to play at the college/pro level in the infield, and be able to identify, and measure, mental make-up qualities of a champion. In addition, campers will be taught ways to successfully manage pressure/anxiety in big moments, improve their infield IQ and situational awareness, and be introduced to ways to raise personal character and integrity. Last, but not least, players will learn how to raise their confidence as a player, which is needed for them to succeed on their journey to the highest levels.

If you have not experienced one of Trent Mongero’s camps firsthand, then I strongly encourage you to do so. Trent’s knowledge of the game of baseball and in particular the defensive part of the game is on another level. What is most unique about Trent is that he is a teacher and coach first. He brings that mentality to his camps which I believe better helps him relate to the player. He can teach the drills and the purpose behind the drills he uses. Players will leave the camp better physically and mentally prepared to play the game. Trent’s passion for the game of baseball and teaching the game is well-expressed and visible at his camps. You will leave the camp knowing he didn’t just show up he gave 100%. I have been bringing Trent to Long Island since 2012 running camps and will continue to do so. I also have had the pleasure to watch Taber grow into the fine young man and dynamite player that he is. His work ethic is what I would desire for all my players. You will not find two finer men of high integrity and character.

“Coach,
Just wanted to thank you for putting on an amazing clinic last week in WhiteHall. The instruction was fantastic- as a veteran teacher and coach your ability to break down high-level skills into their simplest form to a variety of age/skill levels was impressive and inspiring.
I loved The Mental Game and your “chair talks”.It was great to have my son hear a different voice preach so many of the concepts we teach on our team and in our home. Josh, my son, really took to heart what Taber said about leadership, goal-setting, and the realities of college baseball.
This is a game of fathers and sons, and the best part was our drive home – we talked for hours on the drive home about ball, his notebook, his plans, and his goals. His goal is to play at the next level – and this camp provided a physical and mental blueprint to assist in that goal.
Best of luck to you and your son next season,”

“Coach, Thank you so much for organizing the clinic again for us. I hadn’t heard of Coach Mongero before today, but I’m going to be chewing on the knowledge he dropped for a while. Man, that combination of the guy’s subject mastery and presentation skills are next level. I’ve been through train-the-trainer presentations at work and for other sports (and led a few), and I honestly don’t think I’ve seen anyone do it better. Holy cow. You guys crushed it, this year. A Big Shout Out To Tim Hyers & Scott Emerson: Contributors to Winning Baseball products

Coach Taber Mongero:

Coach Taber Mongero is the current infield coach and director of player development at Division 1 mid major powerhouse UNCW. At UNCW he spends each and every day on the field working with the UNCW infielders before, during, and even after practice to help them take daily steps towards mastering their craft and becoming the best infielders they can be at the D1 level. When Taber was the starting shortstop at UNCW, 2021-2023, he was ranked the 36th best D1 shortstop in America and graduated high school at 138 pounds. Yes, 5’8” – 138 pounds, to be exact. He was a hard-nosed “dirt dawg” or as we like to call it… a hard nosed Dirt Bro. Taber prided himself on playing the game the right way and being a great teammate. He was always one of the smallest players on his teams growing up and in college, so he had to learn to play big and develop superior baseball IQ and situational awareness in order to succeed and advance to higher levels. Because of his size and many people doubting him, he played the game with a big “chip” on his shoulder. Most believed he was too small physically to ever play college baseball, not to mention becoming a D-1 Shortstop. Taber is very strong in his Christian faith and plays the game for an AO1 (audience of 1…being Jesus Christ). He believes in working hard, working smart, and creating processes on defense and offense that transfer into improved game performance. Taber was a First-team All-CAA selection in 2022 and an ABCA Second-Team All-Atlantic D1 Region selection. He is the only UNCW Seahawk to play and start in every game in 2021 and 2022. Ranked among UNCW’s single-season leaders at shortstop in fielding percentage at .961, Taber tied the program record with 10 defensive assists in a win over the College of Charleston. He finished 2022 with a .301 batting average and six home runs. Added 12 doubles and a pair of triples. Including 17 multi-hit games and seven three-hit outings.

Prior to UNCW: Played one season at National perennial JUCO power, College of Central Florida. Taber started all 27 games at shortstop, that COVID shortened season, hitting 317 with 33 hits, including nine doubles.

Prior to JUCO: Started college career at Gardner Webb University (D1 – Big South Conference) his freshman season, starting in 47 games, mostly at shortstop at 142 pounds. His head coach announced his retirement mid season and a serious hand injury led to Taber transferring to JUCO to pursue his dream of one day playing for UNCW.

In High School… Taber was selected Georgia Co-Player of the Year (3 AAA) and was a two-time 1st Team All-State selection. Other honors include 7 AAA Region Hitter of the Year, including being selected All-Region Team four times. In 2017 he helped his HS team, The North Hall Trojans (Georgia), win their first ever State Championship, where his father, Trent, was the head coach. His senior year he set the “single season hits” record for North Hall HS with 60.
